Bird Rock Coffee Roasters ★★★★★

I was enjoying my usual morning cup of coffee at home, scrolling thru my facebook feed when it caught my eye, “……$11 cup of coffee…”  What? That made me stop scrolling –  it’s a wonder I can read anything if you watch how fast I scroll Facebook. Anyway, I had to know more, $11 for one cup? Who is this “Bird Rock”???

I began to read more and discovered that this company churns out a Geisha varietal coffee from the Lino Lot on the Panama Esmeralda Estate which sells for $100 a pound! Bird Rock Coffee Roasters has won many awards and since 2009, over 40 coffees scoring 90+ on coffee review! In 2012 they were awarded National Micro Roaster of the year. In 2014, Bird Rock had the two top coffees of the year. Eater rated them one of the 38 essential coffee shops in America and Zagat said they were one of THE hottest coffee shops! This was a place I HAD to visit!

Fast forward almost a year. I have family that live in San Diego and a graduation was the perfect time to enjoy some family AND make my dream a reality – a visit to Bird Rock Coffee Roasters.

It was a gorgeous San Diego day and as I walked toward the building for the first time, I felt like I was dreaming…..I was finally here, the place I had dreamed on visiting, was a reality.
I slowly entered the building, wanting this moment to last as long as it could. The place was airy, beautiful and the punches of turquoise in the decor made it perfect!

I looked over their pour over menu and was tempted, but went for a cappuccino. It was smooth, yet strong and the froth was perfect. We sat watching planes go by from the open exposed brick window……such a perfect moment.

The coffee lived up to every expectation, the atmosphere and baristas very welcoming. I didn’t want to leave…..I wanted to experience more. We then decided to go visit their Morena Blvd. Roastery just a short distance away, I had to have more of this Bird Rock Coffee.

That blog post I will save for another day. The place did not disappoint on any level and I cannot wait to return.
