Broad Porch Coffee Co.

Last spring my family and I vacationed at Massanutten Resort. Massanutten is close to Harrisonburg Virginia. In previous years that we have gone, I have struggled to find anything other than a Starbucks. This was disheartening, especially when we vacation for a week there.

As I pulled up Yelp in my phone, my eyes lit up when I discovered that this was no longer the case – local coffee had come to Harrisonburg, VA., and in a BIG way!

Broad Porch Coffee Co. is located downtown inside a cute market, called Angora Downtown Market. The coffee shop is small – you will find one long counter with barstools. A few tables off to the side and an espresso machine behind it. The beauty of this shop was all the pretty plants and the painting behind the bar. It was beautifully thought out and arranged.

I ordered a cappuccino and while waiting, struck up a conversation with the owner, Phil. Phil, along with his co-owner Jill, are both Harrisonburg natives and have a love for coffee. Jill tends to all the live plants at the shop and Phil oversees the coffee roasting. I enjoyed chatting with Phil. He was friendly, approachable and made you feel at home. He began roasting coffee out of his house over four years ago. BUT…..how would the coffee be? Would it be a good pour?

The answer to all those questions are, yes and yes! The cappuccino was delicious, as was the brewed coffee and I loved every minute! Before leaving the area, I stopped back in to enjoy some of this yummy local coffee again.

This place is very unique. I carried my coffee around and looked at all the vintage items for sale in the shop. A few locals stopped by and praised the shop owner and his love for the community. This was such a memorable time for me.  You can sip your coffee and walk around and shop from the locals – how cool! It really is the perfect example of supporting local.

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE this place!!! It is a hidden gem in downtown Harrisburg and I strongly encourage you to seek it out! Broad Porch Coffee Co. is fantastic coffee and can be enjoyed on location or purchased online!
