Calusa Coffee Roasters
In honor of my move to the sunshine state, I decided to blog about the very first local coffee shop I visited in Florida, Calusa Coffee Roasters in Oakland Park, Florida!
Hubby had a job interview and I came along of course! Anxious to scope out the local coffee scene of South Florida, more specifically the Fort Lauderdale and surrounding areas. Using Yelp as my guide, I found Calusa Coffee Roasters.
The building is hard to miss with its bright orange awnings. Inside a smaller cafe with both comfortable seating and tables. It has a simple, friendly feel to it and in the next room, I spot a coffee roaster.
The owner greeted me and was very friendly. I ordered my cappuccino, not sure what to expect. Chatting with the owner, I learned that he and his family had owned a travel business for years and lived in Costa Rica. It was there, they developed a love for coffee.
The coffee is roasted on site and the shop actual began as just a small batch roastery. When the customers came to pick up their freshly roasted coffee, they inquired as to why he didn’t also have a small cafe, so they could grab a fresh cup, along with their bag of beans.
And that is the story of Calusa Coffee. My cappuccino was very good, so I then ordered some black coffee, pour over style. I wanted to try these freshly roasted bean myself. It was just as delicious.
While drinking my coffee, a few regulars stopped by and chatted with the friendly owner. Helping one customer select the right roast for her and another was a long time friend.
When I think of Calusa Coffee, the word “friendly†comes to mind. It was a great little spot, in the Oakland Park area and I look forward to returning and having a nice chat on the side of a great cup of coffee!
