Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters ★★★★★

Kansas City is a mecca for local coffee. There are so many local coffee shops, roasters & bloggers, that I have visited the city on three different occasions and still have not visited all of them! In fact, I’m already planning another trip!

I have blogged and written reviews on seven other, outstanding local coffee shops in this city of barbecue and today is no exception.

Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters is unique in its own incredible way. A coffee shop unlike I have ever seen before. The decor is outdoorsy, comfortable and has camping gear adorning the walls – a very rustic feel to it. But don’t let that fool you, this is a hip place to be anytime of day! 

Thou Mayest is a place to hang out for a while with your friends, featuring both indoor and outdoor seating areas. You feel the energy as soon as you step through the door! They serve alcoholic beverages also, so you must be 21 to enter. 

Once inside, I felt the excitement and the hum of conversation among friends all having a great time. It made me feel like this was THE place to be. A friendly barista called over to me, asking if I was staying or going. I had been drinking coffee all day, so I went for the cold brew. Adding no sugar or cream, it was fantastic and I appreciated the depth of the notes that I was able to enjoy.

 But what about the name? Well, I went to their website and found the answer.

“Timshel – ‘Thou Mayest’ – that gives a choice. It might be the most important word in the world. That says, always open. That throws it right back on a man. For if ‘Thou Mayest’ – it is also true that ‘Thou Mayest not”. – Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters Website

The Goal of Thou Mayest is ‘to get you buzzed, both AM and PM.”  (- Thou Mayest Coffee Website)  They are open M-W from 10 in the morning until 10 at night and midnight Thurs. – Saturday. I find this awesome, having experienced that most local coffee shops close early in the evening.

Sadly, my time there was short lived. I would have loved to stay, but as usual, I grabbed a bag of coffee and hit the road. I want to add, that the coffee bags are beautifully designed – some of the best I’ve seen! I purchased, “Wild Child” and it was impeccable and some of the best I have had! 

While visiting Kansas City, make sure to hang out, after hours at Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters, and grab a bag to brew at home, you wont be disappointed!
